As Chairman and CEO of Acer Inc., the role of J.T. Wang is to oversee the company’s global competitiveness. Under his leadership Acer has generated impressive returns; the company revenue increased by nearly 300% between 2001 and 2006. The world's No. 4 brand for Total PCs, Acer has set its goal on becoming a world top-three PC vendor.
The key to Acer’s remarkable success in its latest restructuring is the Channel Business Model initiated by Wang and his management team. This model encourages partners and suppliers to join Acer in a winning formula of supply-chain management, and allows Acer to outsource from top-tier vendors and partners. In doing so, Acer has built up an efficient supply chain and service network that provides customers with competitive pricing, fresh technologies, and quality service.
Wang brings with him extensive experience in operational management with over 25 years at the Acer Group. He joined Multitech (forerunner of Acer) in 1981 as a sales engineer and quickly climbed the ranks of the corporate ladder to become President of Acer Sertek (sales and marketing division in Taiwan) at the age of 36 in 1990. After the second group-reengineering in 2000, Wang became President of Acer Inc. to focus on marketing Acer-branded IT products and services. Upon Stan Shih’s retirement from Acer in 2005, Wang succeeded as Chairman and CEO of the company.
Wang holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University and an Executive MBA from Taiwan’s National Cheng-Chi University. He and his wife have two daughters.
