| The ISO 14001 was first published
in 1996 and specifies the actual requirements for
an environmental management system. It applies to
those environmental aspects which the organisation
has control over, and can be expected to influence.
In 1997, the Bureau
Veritas Quality International (BVQI) awarded
Acer with the ISO 14001 registration. Due to the
separation of Acer's branded business from the manufacturing
unit, Acer re-established its ISO 14001 Environmental
Management System (EMS) in September 2002, and renewed
the certification in February 2003.
Acer views the ISO 14001 standard as a tool to
improve internal processes; the entire EMS is
based on a thorough evaluation of environmental
impacts. The scope of the EMS extends to the entire
life cycle of our IT products, from design-, manufacturing-
and supply management, sales and marketing, to
after-sales services. Moreover, Acer has requested
all of our suppliers to implement the EMS into
their operations. Currently, 99% of our suppliers
have acquired the ISO 14001 certification.
