Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) was developed by the US government to help purchasers in the public and private sectors evaluate, compare and select notebook PCs, desktop computers and monitors based on their environmental attributes. Presently, the US federal government stipulates that more than 95% of purchases made must be EPEAT certified products.
EPEAT has divided product environmental attributes into eight major categories with 51 criteria; 23 criteria are required and the remaining 28 are optional. Products that meet all 23 required criteria would be awarded the Bronze status; products that meet all 23 required criteria and 50% of the optional criteria would be award the Silver status and those that meet all 23 required criteria along with 75% of the optional criteria would be awarded the Gold status. Acer regards EPEAT as a very important criterion and plans to have products registered in Q3.
