Acer InviLink™ IEEE 802.11b Wireless LAN

Making connections is an essential part of doing business. TravelMate mobile PC's are designed with this in mind, ensuring that users have a range of connectivity options in any environment.

Built-in Ethernet and modem ensures TravelMate users can connect to an office LAN or the Internet with ease. State-of-the-art wireless networking is also available via an integrated InviLink™ IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN module and internal antenna, featured in many TravelMate models. Other models also offer support for an external 802.11b wireless LAN PC card.

This frees office networks from the constraints of cables and sockets, as connection to the office LAN is made via wireless signals to an access point.
The integrated InviLink™ IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN modules provide the following benefits:

Users have the freedom to roam without needing to log on and off the network, so long as they remain within range of an access point. This means users can take their mobile PCs with them on visits to other desks, offices, or meeting rooms.

Enterprises are able to realise cost savings when setting up new network infrastructures, as one access point can handle up to fifty users without the need to purchase and install additional cables or LAN sockets.

Point-to-point connection with other PCs is also possible, providing a convenient method for data transfer.

Bluetooth capability
The TravelMate 800, 650 and C110 all feature Bluetooth wireless capability for state-of-the-art connectivity to a range of external devices. Bluetooth modules are available now
Wireless signal control

TravelMate notebook's InviLink™ button

Wireless signal manageability is made possible by the TravelMate 610 and 350's InviLink button. Users are able to activate and deactivate the wireless LAN and Bluetooth modules, ensuring that the two signals never interfere with each other. The InviLink button also enables users to turn off both wireless signals when flying, thereby conforming to airplane safety regulations.
When the InviLink button is pressed, the choice of signal is also indicated by the InviLink
LED: orange for IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN, blue for Bluetooth, and off when neither signal is selected.

Notes:
If neither module is built in, the InviLink button and InviLink LED will have no function.
The InviLink button has no control over the operation of cards used in the CardBus slot, (such as the optional IEEE 802.11b PC card, or external modules connected to an I/O port, i.e.: optional USB Bluetooth module.) However, if such a device for one type of wireless signal is used alongside an integrated module for the other type of signal, the InviLink button is required to activate and deactivate the signal from the built-in device.
