Easy setup, simple management
With the wizard-based setup and configuration, even first timers without storage expertise can easily install and configure the SMS100 in less than an hour.

The easy-to-use Hitachi Storage Navigator Modular 2 software includes step-by-step, interactive guides and task-based icons for easy management of all key operations. This software allows the system to automatically build the RAID group and copies data from the old group, simplifying the protection process.
Enterprise-level reliability

A robust trio of Hitachi replication and data protection software includes:

Copy-on-Write Snapshot1 for non-disruptive protection, featuring point-in-time replication without performance loss.
• ShadowImage® In-System Replication2 for full-volume copying
• TrueCopy® Extended Distance2 for asynchronous copying between Simple Modular Storage systems and remote data protection.
RAID-6 implementation ensures no data loss even when two drives fail, giving you the highest data reliability level available anywhere.

Having dual-active/active symmetrical controllers1 means that all storage volumes are always available via either controller. When any port is unavailable or a link is lost, I/O is automatically directed via another port to another link. Other benefits include:

Entire cache mirroring makes all segments available via either controller so data is never exposed while in the cache.

Automatic load balancing means traffic is always re-routed to the least busy controller/port.
•

Multipathing support, including multipathing I/O (MPIO) and multiplexed I/O (MPXIO), helps protect and optimize application performance while hiding unnecessary complexity.

Redundant3 controllers, power supplies and fans maximize uptime and further bolster the reliability of the Hitachi Simple Modular Storage 100.
In the event that a drive has to be replaced, two available open drive slots and no tools required simplify the replacement process.

Auto migration software is included for easy movement of data directly from one system to another. The RAID group is automatically rebuilt even if the new system has more drives or higher-capacity drives than the original, and the I/O is switched to the new system after migration is complete.
